Audi A6 Typ 4G: Diesel particulate filter

Applies to: vehicles with diesel engine

The diesel particulate filter filters nearly all of the soot particles out of the exhaust. The filter cleans itself automatically under normal driving conditions. If the filter cannot clean itself (for example, because you are only driving short distances), the filter becomes clogged with soot and the symbol for the diesel particulate filter illuminates.

WARNING

  • Do not park your vehicle over flammable materials such as grass or leaves because the high temperature of the diesel particulate filter could start a fire.
  • Do not apply an underbody protectant in the exhaust system area or a fire could start.
